MDR Academy is open source. That is not a marketing phrase — it is a deliberate model. This page explains what it means in practice and why it works the way it does.
The knowledge base is free. Fully.
Every category, every resource, every guide on MDR Academy is publicly available at no cost. You do not need an account. You do not need to register, provide your email, or agree to a trial. You just read.
This includes everything in the structured knowledge base: the regulatory framework, technical documentation requirements, conformity assessment routes, clinical evaluation, QMS obligations, MDCG guidances, and post-market surveillance. It is all there, organised by category, and it stays free.
Why free?
MDR Academy was built out of frustration with exactly the problem that keeps knowledge expensive: the people who most need regulatory clarity are often the same ones who cannot afford the consultants and training programmes that provide it. Small manufacturers, new regulatory affairs teams, founders who are figuring out the MDR process for the first time — they get the same fragmented landscape of dense official texts and scattered guidance documents as everyone else, but fewer resources to make sense of it.
We built MDR Academy to be the resource we wished existed when we started. Putting it behind a paywall would contradict the entire reason it was built.
Forms — on request, no charge
Embedded throughout the platform are structured self-assessment forms. These tools help you work through practical MDR questions — for example, determining your device class or identifying your applicable conformity assessment route — based on your specific situation. They take your inputs and generate a personalised output that reflects your circumstances, not a generic answer.
Form access is free, but it is on request rather than open to all. To use the forms, contact us at mrdacademy.eu@gmail.com with a short note about your role and what you are working on. We review every request and grant access directly.
Why on request rather than open?
Forms generate outputs that are tied to specific inputs — device type, manufacturer status, knowledge-level answers. We need to know who is using them, both to manage access responsibly and to ensure the tool is being used in a context where the output is actually useful. This is not a gatekeeping decision — it is a practical one. Access is personal, and it is there when you need it.
MCP Server — on request, no charge
MDR Academy exposes its knowledge base via an MCP (Model Context Protocol) server. This allows AI agents and agentic tools — whether built by your own team or a third-party integration — to connect programmatically to MDR Academy's content and query it directly.
MCP access is useful if you are building an internal AI assistant for regulatory work, integrating MDR knowledge into an existing tool, or working on an agentic compliance workflow. The knowledge base becomes a live, queryable source rather than a document your AI has to work from memory.
Access is free, but again on request. Contact us at mrdacademy.eu@gmail.com and describe your intended use. We review each request and approve access based on the stated purpose.
Why on request?
MCP access means your system is querying our knowledge base directly and at scale. We need to know what that system is, what it is doing with the content, and whether the use is consistent with how the platform is meant to be used. The approval step is brief, but it matters — it is how we maintain responsible access without needing to build heavyweight technical restrictions into the server.
Once approved, access is yours to use within the terms described on our Terms and Conditions page.
Will this change?
The knowledge base will stay free. That is a commitment, not a provisional offer. It is the foundation of what MDR Academy is, and there is no plan — or intention — to put it behind a paywall.
Forms and MCP access are currently free on request. There is no plan to charge for them. If anything on this platform were ever offered on a paid basis in the future, it would be communicated transparently before the change, and it would not affect the knowledge base.
There is no premium tier in development. There is no upsell. This is not a freemium model with a paywalled product waiting behind it.
If you have a question about access, or something about the platform that is not covered here, contact us at mrdacademy.eu@gmail.com — we read every message.
